Freelance Senior Data Engineer

On behalf of Danske Bank, we are currently looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a high-impact data initiative.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines, working with large datasets, and contributing to modern data platform development. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and efficient data solutions that support business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines and ETL processes to support HR modernisation
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
• Lead migration to cloud-based infrastructure and modernise ETL tools and processes
• Work with DevOps aspects of data engineering, including infrastructure setup, configuration, and maintenance using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Ensure data quality and governance by implementing frameworks for accuracy, consistency, and compliance
• Promote best practices in data engineering and stay up to date with emerging technologies
• Mentor junior colleagues
• Contribute to broader organisational digitalisation and technical innovation

Requirements

• Experience in end-to-end data engineering: ETL, data integration, and data modelling
• Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning
• Significant experience with cloud platforms and native services (AWS or Databricks is an advantage)
• Solid programming skills in data-focused languages (preferably Python, PySpark)
• Experience maintaining and analysing legacy systems for migration purposes
• Knowledge of data design patterns (data lakehouse, data warehousing)
• Experience with CI/CD practices and Git version control
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn IaC tools such as Terraform
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, ownership, and adaptability
• Advanced English skills
• Nice to have: experience with orchestration/scheduling tools, BI, and data visualisation (e.g. Tableu)

Years of experience: Senior level (typically 5+ years in data engineering or equivalent experience)

Preferred start / end date

• Preferred start date: 1 May 2026 or ASAP after this date
• End date: 30 April 2027 + option for prolongation
